Well it is time for another mini twist break!! You guys know I love mini twists but lately I haven't been able to commit to the style for longer than 2 weeks. That will not work if I plan to see a significant jump in the health of my hair. But thankfully, I know that if I place my self on a challenge I have a better chance of making it. I've decided that I want to "guarantee" another inch of uninterrupted growth going into the new year because I plan to flat iron my hair for the first time in over two years, and will do a length check. (Excited!) Okay SO...This twist challenge will take me into the New Year. My hair thrives in protective styles, styles where there is very little manipulation,NO detangling, and No knots to deal with.
So here is what I am doing......
First Set 11/17/12 Cleansed and Deep Conditioned with Aubrey Organics GPB for strengthinging.. Moisturized, used IC Polisher heat protectant and Blew hair out using the tension method.. I blow my hair out on medium heat with cool shots. I like doing this because it keeps my roots stretched for clean parting. (no snags or cross chairs getting pulled into neighboring twists. If the parts aren't clean I end up with cross hairs that could break later with handling). Also I don't blow my hair out bone dry I like to leave some moisture for manageability and to keep it from drying out too much as I twist.
Blow out |
I will be wearing my twist up 98% of the time, moisturizing daily, doing scalp massages every other day, and sealing my ends with Black Jamaican Castor oil. I also use Hydratherma Natural's Follicle Invigorator on my scalp and edges to keep them strong. My styling will stay pretty simple: buns, updo's and rodded twist styles..(I do not wash my hair while wearing mini-twists, I just keep my scalp clean..washing adds to a tangly take down for me). I do plan to do hot oil treatments with Organic Coconut oil, and Extra Virgin Olive oil. This will keep my hair soft and conditioned.
This first set will come down on 12/8/12. I will wear a twist out for 2 days.. Detangle, Cleanse with Mud Wash, Henna, Deep Condition with Aubrey Organcis HoneySuckle Rose..Stretch, blow out and Retwist for another 4 weeks! How will you protect your hair this winter?

Your twists look lovely. I am doing something similar, well have been since September....mini braids. I do these because I go to the gym and need to rinse my scalp. Additionally I can keep them in for up to ten weeks at a time, which helps because my fro freaks me out lol.
Where do you find the Aubrey organics & honeysuckle from? And your hair looks great, definitely thinking about doing a protective style to my hair but I worry about my hair drying out & itching, which always seems like the case in the past .. would you recommend the products you mentioned or something else?
Chan your twists look really pretty! Have fun with them. What's your thoughts on the Jamaican Castor Oil? I've never tried it, but I've tried regular castor oil. I find it's drying. I'm always wanting to add it to conditioners though IDK why LOL.
Hey New007! Thanks!! I love how you always comment on my post, It makes me feel like i'm not posting for my benefit only! : ) Thanks for the compliment you know ADORE your twist always.. they always look so perfect! I actually can really tell the difference between regular cold press Castor oil and Jamaican Black Castor oil and I love it. It makes my ends feel really soft and smooth.
It took me a while to actually purchase because I didn't think there would be much difference between the two, but there is a big difference! Regular Castor oil didn't do anything for my ends, this JBCO feels 5x better.
Hello Michelle! You can purchase Aubrey Organics from Sprouts or Wholefoods Grocery Store. If you don't have one of these stores check your local health food store.
For dryness I used a like moisturizer try milks they aren't as heavy, I concentrated on the ends and then smooth it over the rest of my hair so I don't over saturated it just enough to get it damp. I then use Extra Virgin Olive Oil to seal. Makes my twists really soft. For my scalp I massage with Vatika Oil..it has lemon in it so it really helps with itchy scalp.. I also add lemon grass oil to my Vatkia oil for that extra kick. Try doing that while wearing the style and it should really calm that down.
Hello Jeanelle! Wow Ten weeks that is amazing.. I've worn mini braids once and I did love how easy it was to get to my scalp and they were easier to wash and deep condition as well, you don't have to worry about shrinkage too much. (I couldn't handle the take down though, they took forever to remove!) lol@ your Fro freaks you out, it can get overwhelming at times, gotta have patience.
Ok, great .. Thank u!
