Okay so it never fails I always go into some kind of braids in the fall/winter months. Typically I reserve my box braids for summer, but I put crochets in this past summer and thought I would switch it up. I'm not a big trend watcher anyway. I wear what I want, when I want and for different reasons! This time I desperately needed to give me and my hair a break. I've been super busy and I was starting to lose patience with my hair. Yes it happens to me! And when that happens I put my hair away before I do something crazy like damage it or cut it off! So, I made a quick decision to save me and my hair, and in these box braids went!(I couldn't muster up any strength to try installing these, I had someone else do them. Liz @ Calizbeauty Salon in Plano, Tx..I'm loving the color!) I absolutely love my natural hair but I don't always love how much work goes into caring for it, nor do I always have the time! I thank God for other options....

I would love to keep these in for 2 months, but we shall see! The length and thickness of these braids have been a bit cumbersome getting use to. I am such a practical person, if hair is slowing me down or getting in my way it has to go! Comfort over cuteness will always win out with me. But, I am trying to get use to them. Maybe I will make it a month! Every little bit helps I am going to enjoy my break for as long as I can. And as always I know when this is over I will be back in love with "the Process'' of managing my lovely thick, dense, kinky curly cottony hair!
So what are you guys doing with your hair right now? Will you be protecting it from the cold weather or yourself? Either way works! lol.
Well until Next time!!
Marathon training will start up again in 2014! I am gonna let my hair breath for a couple months. Once it is nice and nappy again, I'll be ready for a fresh crochet install in January.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with you regarding protective styles. There is no way that I could enjoy my training (as hard as it is) and make it to work on time every day if I had to worry with my own hair.
You look marvelous in your braids!

ReplyDeleteYour braids look great. I've been wondering what to do with my hair for the fall and winter months. I'm afraid of the braids, though. My hair seems fragile, in my opinion. I just feel like my hair might fall out if I do. I don't know what my hair type is and I attempted the porosity test and my hair never sunk. I'm not quite sure what that means though.
ReplyDeleteThanks!!! Oh Wow Africa you have a little break from training? What are you going to do with yourself! lol.
ReplyDeleteOkay now I will be looking for you in January I have a new location. Only 3mins away from where I was!
Hello Luv your blog! This time of the year I like to give my hair a break too but sans wigs and weaves. I simply put my hair in twists making sure to moisturize them well and bust out with all my cute hats and head wraps. Always make sure to wear a satin scarf underneath both options. I love it. Keeps me warm n stylish. Been doing this for years as a natural.
ReplyDeleteHi Miranda thank you so much! I've already taking those braids down lol..sad. I will just twist my hair and wear buns for the rest of the winter. If your hair is fine and baby soft getting individual braids can be risky. Crochet braids are the safest option with very low tension on the cornrows. From what I understand if it doesn't sink then your hair is considered low porosity because the cuticles are so flat or tight that it takes water or product a while to get in. But once it gets in it holds on to it. If its Low porosity it should also have more of a shine because light tends to reflect better. I hope that helps some!
ReplyDeleteHello Anonymous thanks for taking the time to read my posts, I really appreciate that! I love wearing my hair in twists I was getting bored of them because its all I wear, but I'm about to go back, those braids drove me crazy! I love wearing nice accessories as well, and I got me a couple crochet hats!!
